Gujarat Police Gets Harley-Davidsons.Harley-Davidson bikes are used by police departments across the globe, with India being the latest name to add its name to the list. Though Gujarat Police is now the first Indian state police to get the Harleys, the exact number of the bikes purchased remains unknown. But a senior retired cop remarked that this may just prove to be a toy because, 1. Engine seizure during hot Indian summers. Bikes with smaller hp survived the tempt exceeding 49 deg in shade for a long time. 2 Poor performance in bylans in old city areas. 3. Running cost is very high since all parts are import items. and not readily available off the shelf. 4. Requires well built and tall persons to man the machine. 5. Suitable only for highway patrols as a chase vehicle 6. Requires high octane fuel not readily found at every petrol pump and then more costly when found. 7 A departmental show off item. 8. CM will find it a good item in the carcade msking a lot of noise
